Client Background
Leviy has been developing a SaaS product since 2014, consisting of a web application and a hybrid app, that focuses on facility management and cleaning. We are now a major player in the Dutch market and many great customers such as AMC, Center Parcs, Landal, Van der Valk and Vebego use our product, and we are expanding in other European countries (Belgium, France, Germany). This involves various challenges such as improvement, expansion, and standardization of our product, which will make scaling faster and easier in the future.
The Needs and Challenges
As Leviy already has an established position in the Dutch market, we wanted to expand to other European countries. A new market means new challenges to overcome and features our software must provide. One of the challenges is that we need to work on the performance of our software. In the past we have been rapidly adding new features to enabling fast growth. It was time to make the critical parts of our system more scalable. To be able to keep adding new features and modernize the codebase, we need to grow the capacity of our software development team. One of our short-term goals is to grow from one to two development teams. In addition to the further development of the software, we also find it important to continue to modernize the software and our processes, and input is greatly appreciated.
Solutions Implemented
The project was executed in collaboration with Leviy Head of Engineering cross-functional teams, comprising Macedonian and Dutch engineers were formed.
Key developments included:
Software development of new features using modern design principles for improved code maintainability.
- Developed RESTful APIs are integrated by clients that additionally use internal tools besides Leviy.
- Involved in refining upcoming tasks that need further clarification to be considered ready for development.
- Created custom continuous integration workflows to automate testing processes, including package management, license checks, PR-based code coverage, and commit rules.
Migrated the whole Leviy ecosystem from PHP 7 to the latest version (8.3 at the time of writing) and Symfony from version 4.4 to 6.4
From day one, Xessable professionals were embedded into Leviy’s teams, enabling seamless collaboration. We added 3 members over 4 years, with the flexibility to scale down if needed. The team followed agile methodology and organized bi-weekly sprints to ensure iterative improvements. Frequent in-person collaboration through regular visits between Macedonia and the Netherlands (a two-hour flight) fostered stronger teamwork.
Talent Integration and Project Impact
We continuously enhance system stability and scalability to optimize daily operations within the facility management and cleaning industry. The Leviy ecosystem, consisting of a large monolithic application, two microservices, and several internal packages, requires a balanced innovative approach and careful management.
Our ongoing work involves developing new features, maintaining and refactoring existing components, and addressing performance and scalability challenges within the legacy parts of this complex, service-oriented web platform. Through this sustained effort, we strengthen the foundation for scalable growth and operational excellence.
